Koike, Abe join hands to deliver successful Games

The Yomiuri Shimbun Tokyo Gov. Yuriko Koike visited Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday and pledged to cooperate with the central government to deliver a successful Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics in 2020.
Abe congratulated Koike on her victory in the gubernatorial election and said, “Your ippon [decisive] victory over the Liberal Democratic Party was harsh.”
He also said, “The central and metropolitan governments should cooperate to make the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics successful.” To this, Koike responded, “[Tokyo] will continue to work closely and firmly with the central government.”
Abe also referred to his newly reshuffled Cabinet, saying: “Tamayo Marukawa has become the minister for the Olympics. I hope you two can work together.”
